Cailin Garmon has been a steady contributor to the Chico State softball team all season, but the Wildcats' shortstop has chosen a particularly good time to take her game to the next level. The Sacramento native was one of the major standouts in the 'Cats' run to the CCAA Championship Tournament title game, providing timely hitting, cat-like baserunning and several sparkling plays in the field. Garmon's outstanding postseason production makes her the latest Wildcat of the Week. Â
Â
Garmon batted .357 (5-for-14) over the four CCAA Championship Tournament games while scoring three times, knocking in a run and stealing four bases in as many attempts to help Chico State beat Sonoma State twice and reach Sunday's conference title game.
Â
Garmon went 2-for-3, scored twice and swiped a pair of bases Friday in the 'Cats' 5-3 victory over the Seawolves, then collected two hits and a stolen base the next day against UC San Diego. In Saturday night's elimination game, Garmon delivered an RBI single to highlight a five-run first inning as the Wildcats beat Sonoma State 6-4.
Â
Garmon is hitting .292 on the season with a .403 on-base percentage. She's also a perfect 14-for-14 in stolen bases, giving her 22 swipes in her two-year Wildcat career. Over the 'Cats' last eight games, Garmon is hitting an impressive .381 with six stolen bases.
Â
Garmon and the Wildcats continue postseason play this week, traveling to Arcata to compete in the NCAA Championship Tournament West Sub-Regional.    Â
