Kayla Taylor began the 2015-16 season as one of the starting five for the Chico State women's basketball team and did well, averaging six points and three rebounds a game. Since New Year's Eve, however, the transfer from Diablo Valley College has proven even more effective as one of the first players off the bench, providing a spark for the 'Cats on both the offensive and defensive ends. Taylor delivered very productive performances against San Francisco State and Sonoma State to help Chico State earn a weekend split at Acker Gym, and her contributions make Taylor the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Â
In a combined 32 minutes of action, Taylor scored 18 points over the weekend, shooting 57 percent from the field (8-for-14) while pulling down nine rebounds and dishing out two assists. She held her own defensively as well, grabbing a pair of steals.
Â
Taylor came through with 10 points and a season-high eight rebounds Friday to help lead the Wildcats roll to a 69-39 win over San Francisco State. She was active again on Saturday, hitting three of six shots and sinking both her free throw attempts in 17 minutes to finish with eight points in the 'Cats' 61-56 loss to Sonoma State.
Â
Taylor is averaging 6.1 points and 3.3 rebounds on the season. She is second on the team in field goal percentage (47.6 percent) and fourth in rebounding.
Â
Taylor and the Wildcats travel to Oceanside this Thursday to take on CCAA rival Cal State San Marcos before returning to Acker Gym Saturday to host Simpson University in a non-conference tilt.
