A true freshman, Sable Villaescusa has taken over Chico State’s setter position vacated by four-time All-CCAA selection Erica Brick, and the Wildcats have not missed a beat. The native of Rancho Cucamonga racked up 138 assists last week as Chico State won three matches to extend the team’s winning streak to nine and its’ season record to 11-1, and as a result, Villaescusa has been tabbed a Wildcat of the Week.
Villaescusa contributed 27 assists, two kills and seven digs Tuesday, September 8 against William Jessup University; 48 assists, three kills and nine digs in Chico State’s conference opener Friday, September 11 versus San Francisco State, and posted career highs with 63 assists and seven kills in Chico State’s thrilling five-set victory over CSU Monterey Bay on Saturday, September 12. Villaescusa is among the CCAA leaders in assists, currently averaging 11.07 per set.
