As the lone senior on the Chico State women's basketball team, Brooke Bowen carries quite a bit of responsibility. Besides providing the team with experience and leadership, she is asked to be productive on the court on a nightly basis. It's no surprise that Bowen's recent return to the starting lineup coincided with the end of the 'Cats' five-game losing streak, and thanks to an array of impressive numbers, the Vancouver, Wash., native is the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Bowen averaged a team-high 14.5 points in the Wildcats' two contests, and her shooting (11-for-22 from the field and 5-for-12 from 3-point range) was the most consistent it has been all season. Bowen also pulled down eight rebounds, doled out seven assists and grabbed a pair of steals as Chico State got back in the win column.
On New Year's Eve, Bowen scored 13 points – one of four Chico State players in double figures – while adding five assists and four boards as the Wildcats beat Cal State L.A. 83-74. Saturday Bowen connected on six of her 11 field goal attempts and drained three 3-pointers, scoring a team-high 16 points in the 'Cats' 83-74 loss to conference co-leader Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Through the Wildcats' first 11 games, Bowen is averaging 9.9 points and 2.6 rebounds a game. She ranks second on the team in scoring, 3-pointers (16), assists (23) and blocked shots (3).
Bowen and the Wildcats travel to Arcata Thursday to take on Humboldt State, followed by a Saturday showdown in Southern California against Cal Poly Pomona.
