As the old saying goes, you only get one chance to make a good first impression. Chico State women's golfer Emily Rotter obviously took that to heart as she made her Wildcats debut at the season-opening Western New Mexico Intercollegiate. The freshman not only posted a top 10 finish in her first collegiate event, but set a new program record by carding the lowest two-round tournament score. Rotter's outstanding start to her Chico State career makes her the latest Wildcat of the Week.
The Fremont native fired a 1-under par 71 in Monday's opening round at Coldwater Golf Club in Avondale, Ariz., then came back the following day to shoot 1-over 73 in the tournament's final round. Rotter's combined score of even par 144 officially entered the Wildcat record books as the lowest two-round score ever by a Chico State women's golfer.
Rotter earned a share of 10th place in the 104-player Western New Mexico Intercollegiate field, and was one of three Wildcats to rank in the top 25 as Chico State kicked off the 2015-16 season with a solid fourth place finish and establishing new program records for lowest single-round team score (even par 288) and lowest two-round tournament score (6-over 582).
Rotter and the Chico State women's golf team returns to action Oct. 5-6 when the Wildcats travel to St. George, Utah's Sunbrook Golf Club to compete in the Dixie State Invitational.
