Ryan O’Shea hasn’t had many chances to showcase his stuff this season. But he’s grateful for the chances he’s had. And he’s taking full advantage of each opportunity. After all, some chances certainly beats none at all.
 
Last Feb. 16 at UC San Diego, O’Shea was warming up to make his first appearance of the season. But his arm didn’t feel right. He didn’t make the start. He didn’t make a single start all season.
 
But he’s back in 2015 in a completely different role. He’s healthy. He’s the team’s closer. And he’s closing games in eye-popping fashion. O’Shea racked up his fourth save of the season in the Wildcats’ 6-4 win against Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday, setting down the Otters in order with a strikeout and two ground balls.
 
The 6-foo-3 senior from Brentwood has now logged six consecutive no-hit innings to start the season. He’s struck out nine of the 20 batters and seven more have grounded out.
 
O’Shea currently ranks second in the California Collegaite Athletic Association in saves and his 13.50 strikeouts per nine innings is second in the conference.
 
The Wildcats are hoping to put O’Shea in some more saves situations this weekend when they travel to take on Cal State L.A. for a four-game series beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. They’ll play a doubleheader Saturdy at 1 p.m. and a single game Sunday at 11 a.m.
