He's funky. He's cold. He's Kyle Medina. And he's the Wildcat of the Week.
 
The Chico State freshman flew four times around the track on the way to an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark in his winning 1,500-meter effort at the Wildcat Invitational Saturday at University Stadium.
 
Medina's time of 3:49.09 is the fastest in Division II this season and the seventh fastest across all collegiate levels. It is also less than a tenth of a second shy of arguably the school's toughest all-time top-10 list to break into.
 
Just over an hour later, Medina doubled back to win the 800 meters with the second fastest time recorded by a California Collegiate Athletic Association athlete this year, 1:54.92.
 
The redshirt freshman from Ventura had a magical first season in cross country during the fall, finishing fourth in the CCAA, fifth in the West Region and 62^nd at the NCAA Championships.
 
It looks like his spring is shaping up nicely as well.
