Tyler Madrid is a big man with the power to do big things for the Chico State baseball team. He did just that this weekend in the Wildcats' three-game sweep at Cal State Stanislaus. He did the little things as well, however, and the combination has netted the hulking senior first baseman Wildcat of the Week honors.
Madrid went 4-for-11 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI over the weekend. The senior from Garden Grove hit .364 with a .533 on-base percentage and slugged .727.
He smashed a solo home run, walked three times, and scored twice in a 5-1 victory Friday. He drove in a run with a double and drew a walk in Saturday's 5-4 win in 11 innings.
And he fought back from down 0-2, fouling off numerous pitches, before a passed ball allowed the winning run to score during his at-bat in the 11th. Madrid was 2-for-4 in the Wildcats' 5-3 win in Saturday's nightcap.
Madrid and the Wildcats will be back in action this weekend for a four-game series against Sonoma State, culminating in the Capital City Clash at Raley Field in Sacramento Sunday at 1 p.m.
