The Chico State baseball team was desperate for a win. Derek Sesma gave the Wildcats the time they needed to secure it. The southpaw struck out seven in three innings of relief, allowing only an infield hit and two walks (one intentional) in the Wildcats' 6-5 win in 10 innings Saturday at Fresno Pacific.
Â
The game was the third straight extra-inning affair in the three game series that marked the 2015 season's first games for the Wildcats. They lost late leads on Friday and in Saturday's opener.
Â
The Wildcats were the ones that made the comeback in the nightcap, scoring twice in the sixth to tie the game 5-5.
Â
Sesma, the Wildcat of the Week, entered the game after a leadoff walk to start the eighth. He struck out the side, stranding the potential winning run.
Â
Sesma struck out two more in a scoreless ninth. And after Chico State took the lead in the 10th on Peter Miller's RBI single, Sesma immediately found himself in a jam thanks to a swinging bunt single.
Â
A sacrifice bunt moved the tying run into scoring position, but Sesma struck out the last two hitters swinging to secure the win.
