Kristyn Casalino is one of five Chico State hitters with at least 120 kills on the season. As usual, the senior from Santa Rosa was a big contributor as the 'Cats took two of three matches last week, but this time she outdid herself, capping things off with a school record-setting performance against Cal State Dominguez Hills. Casalino's consistent play and assault of the record books makes her the latest Wildcat of the Week.
All told, Casalino racked up 27 kills on the week, posting a glittering .479 hitting percentage. She also aided the Chico State attack in other ways, adding 10 blocks, four digs and a service ace as the Wildcats evened their season record at 12-12.
Tuesday against Cal State Stanislaus, Casalino smashed seven kills and had a hand in three blocks in the Wildcats' four-set victory over the Warriors. Casalino had seven kills, four blocks, three digs and an ace Friday versus Cal State L.A., but saved her best for last against Dominguez Hills. Casalino blasted a career-high 13 kills in 15 attempts, with her .862 hitting percentage setting a new Chico State single match record. She also had three block assists as the 'Cats swept the Toros.
Casalino's .327 hitting percentage currently ranks sixth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Her outstanding week also raised Casalino's career hitting percentage to an impressive .298.
Casalino and the Wildcats close out the 2014 season this weekend, hosting Sonoma State on Friday and San Francisco State Saturday at Acker Gym.
