Defender Cassi Scroggins saw an opportunity to help the Chico State women's soccer team's offense, so she asked Head Coach Kim Sutton if she could come try to give the offense a lift in free kick and corner kick situations.
 
Sutton said yes. That was the right answer.
 
Scroggins scored the first two goals of her collegiate career as the Chico State women's soccer team split a weekend road trip to Southern California to earn Wildcat of the Week honors.
 
Scroggins, a junior, scored late in the second half of the Wildcats' 2-0 win at Cal State Dominguez Hills. Megan Tabler set the play in motion with a corner kick. Lindsey Dias flicked it on to Scroggins who scored to make it 2-0.
 
Sunday Scroggins scored in the 81st minute to draw the Wildcats to within 2-1 against a high-powered Cal State L.A. squad. She hit a low liner from the top of the box that deflected off the goalkeeper to Pooja Patel. Sensing another opportunity, Scroggins scrambled into the mouth of the goal, and when Patel's shot bounced off the post, Scroggins crawled over a defender in the chaotic goalmouth and nudged the ball across the line.
 
Scroggins has started every game for a Wildcats' defense that has blanked three of its last six opponents.
 
Scroggins and the Wildcats are back in action this weekend at home. They'll take on Cal Poly Pomona Friday night at 7 and UC San Diego Sunday at 2.
