The Chico State women’s golf team had been idle for nearly four months, waiting to resume the 2013-14 season with its first tournament of the spring season. The long layoff did not effect Dani O’Keefe in the slightest – the sophomore from Santa Maria enjoyed her best tournament performance to date since coming to Chico State during the Lady Rattler Invitational in San Antonio, producing her best single round, lowest two-round score and highest finish ever as a Wildcat. As a result, O’Keefe adds Wildcat of the Week to her personal milestones.
O’Keefe put together back-to-back sub-80 rounds at Dominion Golf Club to finish the Lady Rattler Invitational with a score of 8-over par 152, good for a share of fifth place and helping Chico State finish third overall in a talent-rich 18-team field. O’Keefe’s second round score of 1-over 73 also marked a personal best as a member of the Wildcats.
O’Keefe has notched two straight top 10 finishes and is averaging 77.4 strokes per round on the season. Of O’Keefe’s nine rounds during the 2013-14 campaign, she has broken 80 seven times.
O’Keefe and the Wildcats return to action this Saturday and Sunday at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, competing in the 36-hole Cal State East Bay Pioneer Shootout.
