Senior forward McKenzie Dalthorp has been the most consistent scorer this season for the Chico State women’s basketball team – only twice in the Wildcats’ 20 games has she failed to contribute at least eight points in a contest. The Beaverton, Ore. native stepped it up even more offensively last weekend when the Wildcats really needed it, and her final bucket with just five seconds to play on Saturday provided the ’Cats with the exciting game-winner. Dalthorp’s impressive point totals make her the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Â
Dalthorp was far and away Chico State’s top scorer over the weekend, dropping in a combined 34 points as the Wildcats beat both UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino. Dalthorp shot 60.7 percent from the field (17-for-28), as well as grabbing 10 rebounds to help extend the Wildcats’ current winning streak to seven straight and earn a share of second place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings.
Â
Friday against UC San Diego, Dalthorp tallied a team-high 14 points, collected three rebounds and added an assist in the Wildcats’ 55-42 victory over the Tritons. The following night versus Cal State San Bernardino, Dalthorp matched her career high of 20 points by hitting 10 of 14 shots while hauling in seven rebounds. Her last-second offensive board and put-back layup was the difference in Chico State’s 74-72 win over the Coyotes.
Â
Dalthorp is averaging a career-best 10.9 points and 5.4 rebounds a game, and her 52.4 field goal percentage on the season ranks second among CCAA players.
Â
Dalthorp and the Wildcats head to Southern California this weekend for two big CCAA matchups. Friday Chico State takes on Cal State L.A., then travel to Carson to battle Cal State Dominguez Hills. Â
