It was quite a fall for Tyson Crim. The fifth-year Chico State senior men's soccer player led the program to one of its best seasons yet. He was named Third Team All-America, earned his degree in construction management, and recently excelled in a tryout with the Sacramento Republic FC.
Amazingly, Crim has a chance to have an even better spring.
This week's Wildcat of the Week was one of 32 collegians invited to the Republic's invitation only college combine Dec. 9-11. Crim and teammates Jake Ward and Octavio Guzman were among six asked to return for another combine on Jan. 20-24.
Selected players from that pool will help shape the roster for the Republic's inaugural season in 2014. The club's stated goal is to be in the MLS (Major League Soccer) by 2016.
Whether he winds up helping form the foundation for that franchise, or finding a job in the construction business, Crim will have quite a soccer resume to look back on. He joined the Chico State program in 2009 and helped lead the Wildcats to the 2010 NCAA Championship Tournament West Region title and two more NCAA Championship Tournament appearances (in 2011 and 2013).
Crim finished his career with three All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors, two All-West Region honors, and capped it with the Third Team All-America honor.
