Justin Saul earned his first start as a Wildcat in the men’s soccer team’s 2-0 win against Humboldt State. It won’t likely be his last. Saul notched an assist for the third straight match to earn Wildcat of the Week honors.

The junior transfer from Santa Barbara City College has been the Wildcats’ set-piece savior, setting up three goals with wicked restarts.

He found Justin Walmsley for the golden goal in a 1-0 overtime victory at UC San Diego on Oct. 13.

He connected with Octavio Guzman for the Wildcats’ lone goal in a 1-1 tie against Sonoma State Friday night.

And he hit a corner to Jake Ward for a header and goal Sunday. Saul also nearly scored himself, hitting the crossbar on one of his two shots.

Saul claims his sports hero is David Beckham. Who knows? Maybe one day the kids will want to “shape it like Saul.”
