Chico State freshman Lee Gearhart is nearly a veteran by now. How else would he have 11 tournaments, seven top-20 finishes, and an All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) honor under his belt?
Gearhart grabbed his fourth top-10 finish at the CCAA Championships last week at Hunter Ranch Golf Course in Paso Robles, finishing tied for 10th. Now he can add Wildcat of the Week honors to his ever-growing list of accolades.
Gearhart shot 1-under par (69-73-73–215) to help lead the Wildcats to a fourth-place finish. He ranked third in the field in par-3 scoring at even par, shot 4-under par on the par 5s, and ranked tied for fourth in the field with 12 birdies in 54 holes.
Gearhart will continue his first collegiate postseason next week (May 6-8) when the Wildcats play in the NCAA Championship Super Regional at The Home Course in Dupont, Wash. The top five teams and top two players not part of an advancing team, will move on to the NCAA Championships at Hershey Links in Hummelstown, Penn., May 20-24.
