Based on her performance Saturday at the Chico State Twilight Invitational, freshman Tori Mason will be one of the key components to the Wildcat women’s track & field team’s sprinting corps for years to come. The Sacramento native tore up the University Stadium track in three different events, earned an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time while also etching her name into the Chico State record books. Mason’s productive day also makes her the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Mason began the Twilight Invitational with a solid third place showing in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in at 15.24 seconds. Later in the day, she ran the second-fastest 400-meter hurdles in Wildcat history en route to a second place finish and an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 1:02.01.
Mason’s effort was the third-fastest 400-meter hurdle time among CCAA runners this season, and topped her previous best in the event by nearly 2 1/2 seconds.
Saturday evening Mason ended the Twilight Invitational on another positive note, teaming with Aja Erskine, Robin Hannah and Aimee Rodgers to finish second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:06.82.
Mason will be among the Wildcats competing this week at the Woody Wilson Classic in Davis, running the 100-meter hurdles Friday and the 400-meter hurdles on Saturday. The Chico State women’s track and field team will also be taking part in the Mt. Sac Relays Thursday and Friday.
