Blake Gibbs blasted three home runs and a triple off the wall as the Wildcats took three of four games from Northwest Nazarene last week. Gibbs didn't get many chances to swing the bat. He was walked five times and also hit by a pitch en route to a .667 on-base percentage. But when he did get opportunities, he came through in a big way to earn Wildcat of the Week honors. Gibbs finished the weekend 4-for-9 with six RBI, five runs scored and a slugging percentage of 1.667.
He homered in three of his first six at-bats of the series, reached base three times in the third game and scored twice, and then tripled in one of only two at-bats in the series finale.
After a slow start to the season, Gibbs now has his batting average up to .333 and leads the Wildcats with four home runs, 11 RBI, and 13 runs scored.
When Gibbs was hit by a pitch Saturday, it marked the 28th time in his career, which is the fourth most in program history. If he continues on his current 2013 pace, Gibbs will also work his way on to the school’s career top 10 in runs, home runs, walks and sacrifice flies by the end of the regular season.
Gibbs and the 4th-ranked Wildcats are off next weekend. They’ll take an 11-1 record and the only unbeaten mark in the CCAA on the road to Cal State Monterey Bay March 8-10.
