The Chico State women’s basketball team features several players that can tickle the twine, but when it comes to dominating the boards, the Wildcats look to Analise Riezebos to lead the way in the rebounding department. A key factor in the ’Cats’ weekend wins over Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills was their dominance on the glass, with Riezebos posting double digits in the rebound column each night. Her consistently solid performance in the paint is worthy of Wildcat of the Week honors.
Riezebos totaled 21 rebounds in the two weekend victories, as well as contributing 12 points, one assist, one block and one steal as the No. 13 Wildcats improved to 13-1 on the season and built a two-game lead in the California Collegiate Atheltic Association (CCAA) standings. Riezebos was also effective at the foul line, hitting a combined eight of 11 free throws.
Friday against Cal State L.A., Riezebos hauled in a team-high 11 rebounds and scored seven points as the Wildcats grounded the Golden Eagles 73-67. She pulled down another 10 boards Saturday versus Cal State Dominguez Hills and added five points to the ’Cats’ attack in a 70-63 victory over the Toros.
Riezebos is currently ranked fifth in the CCAA in rebounding, averaging 7.7 boards per contest. She has grabbed at least 10 rebounds in a game five games this season, and has posted at least six boards in all but three of the Wildcats’ 14 contests. Riezebos is on pace to become the first Wildcats to collect more than seven rebounds per game since Amber Simmons averaged 8.6 in the 2006-07 season.
Chico State will be in Acker Gym this weekend to host Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday and Cal State East Bay Saturday.
