Damario Sims’ switch to point guard earlier this season took a bit of getting used to for the senior. It’s now safe to say he’s settled into his new role nicely. Sims delivered 13 assists and five steals in leading the Wildcats to a pair of blowout victories over the weekend to earn Wildcat of the Week honors.
Sims matched his career high with nine assists and set a new career standard with four steals in the Wildcats’ 82-65 win against Sonoma State Friday. He also contributed seven points to the team’s largest margin of victory against Sonoma State since 1985.
In Saturday’s 72-50 smack down of San Francisco State, Sims stacked up his stat line with 13 points, four assists, four rebounds, three blocked shots and a steal.
Sims, who became the 12th player in Chico State history to deliver his 200th career assist Friday night, nearly became the 12th to reach 1,000 points Saturday but came up seven points short.
Deon Robinson (1997-2001) is the only Wildcat with career totals eclipsing both 1,000 points and 200 assists. Sims will attempt to join Mr. Robinson this weekend when the Wildcats travel to take on UC San Diego Friday and Cal State San Bernardino Saturday to start a stretch in which they’ll play eight of their next 10 on the road.
