The Chico State men’s soccer team has experienced plenty of highlights in 2012, and with the postseason just ahead, the Wildcats hope that the best is still to come. A big reason for the Wildcats’ success has been the play of senior midfielder Micah Miranda, and last weekend, as he has done all season, played a key role in helping the ’Cats put the clamps on a third straight California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) title. His efforts make Miranda the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Chico State ran its string of unbeaten matches to 12 straight Friday with a 2-2 tie against Cal State Stanislaus, and it was Miranda who booted home the critical second goal for the Wildcats, knocking the ball through the open goal from 20 yards out. The tie clinched the North Division crown for Chico State and helped solidify the ’Cats’ No. 4 spot in the NCAA West Region rankings.
For the year, Miranda is tied for second on the Wildcats with a career-high four goals; he has also chalked up one assist. Miranda now has six goals and six assists in his Chico State career.
Miranda and the Wildcats move on to postseason play this weekend at the CCAA Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament in Carson. Chico State, the tourney’s No. 2 seed, will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday at 7 p.m. in first round action.
