Matt Anderson is making the most of his opportunity during the stretch run of the 2012 baseball season. The senior outfielder had made two starts all season before seeing his name on the lineup card seven straight times. Anderson will likely see it there again when the Wildcats open a four-game series at Cal State Stanislaus Friday after hitting .583 and earning Wildcat of the Week honors following the Wildcats’ weekend sweep of Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Anderson, who went 7-for-12, scored three runs and drove in three more. He also drew a walk and was hit by a pitch, compiling an on-base percentage of .643. He now leads the Wildcats with a .407 batting average and .484 on-base percentage.

Anderson went 2-for-4 and scored twice in the Wildcats 15-3 win Friday. He was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs in Saturday’s 3-1 win. In Saturday’s nightcap, Anderson singled in his only official at-bat. He also drew a walk and was hit by a pitch in the Wildcats’ 7-4 win. Anderson wrapped up the weekend with a 2-for-4 performance and scored a run and drove in another in the Wildcats’ 8-1 win.

The four wins left Anderson and the Wildcats just one game away from clinching their 17th postseason berth in the last 18 years.
