With consecutive top three tournament finishes, it appears the Chico State women’s golf team is peaking at just the right time, as the Wildcats attempt to play their way into the NCAA Championship Tournament. One of the keys to the ’Cats’ success last weekend was sophomore Heather Fegley, who fired a 4-over par 76 in Sunday’s final round of the Cal State East Bay Pioneer Shootout to help Chico State secure a third place finish, while also earning a share of seventh place on the individual leaderboard. Fegley’s outstanding effort on the links makes the Chico native the latest Wildcat of the Week.
After shooting a 10-over par 82 in Saturday’s opening round, Fegley turned in her best 18 holes of the season with Sunday’s 4-over 76, giving her a 36-hole total of 14-over 158, tying her with Chico State teammate Katie Canadas for top score on the team and the seventh place tournament finish. It marked the first top 10 finish of Fegley’s Chico State career.
Fegley has posted two top 20 finishes on the season, and is currently is averaging 84.4 strokes per round.
Chico State returns to action Monday and Tuesday, Mar. 19-20, when it hosts the Lindsay Olive Wildcat Invitational at Canyon Oaks Country Club.
