Chico State point guard Jay Flores led the Wildcats over the final two hurdles standing in the way of their first ever CCAA championship to earn Wildcat of the Week honors. Flores averaged 13 points, 8 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game in wins against Cal State Monterey Bay (73-54) and Cal State East Bay (61-47).
Flores finished with 10 points, a career-high 12 rebounds, 7 assists and a career-high 5 steals as the Wildcats clinched no worse than a tie for the conference crown Thursday night.
The senior from Sacramento scored a game-high 16 points to go along with six assists, four rebounds and two steals Friday as the Wildcats clinched the title outright. Flores and Josh Jackson were honored prior to the game during “Senior Night” ceremonies.
A legitimate candidate for CCAA MVP, Flores led the Wildcats to a 22-6 regular season and 16-6 conference mark. He’ll now lead the Wildcats into the postseason, which the Wildcats open at home Tuesday nightagainst Cal State Dominguez Hills in the opening round of the CCAA Championship Tournament.
