When it comes to racking up points this season, the Chico State women’s basketball team has relied primarily on its guards to fill up the scoring column. Last weekend, though, the Wildcats’ frontcourt players – McKenzie Dalthorp in particular – also established a strong scoring presence, with Dalthorp enjoying her best weekend ever in a Chico State uniform. The sophomore forward surpassed her career-high point total not once, but twice in big California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road wins against Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills. Her efforts have netted Dalthorp Wildcat of the Week honors.
For the weekend, Dalthorp connected on 71 percent of her field goal attempts (12-of-17) and was 9-for-11 at the free throw line (81.8 percent). She also grabbed eight rebounds in the two Wildcat wins.
Friday, Dalthorp doubled her previous career high when she scored 20 points against Cal State L.A., hitting 6-of-10 from the field and 8-of-10 from the foul line in just 19 minutes of action. She also contributed four rebounds as the Wildcats steamrolled the Golden Eagles 92-60.
Dalthorp was an even more efficient shooter Saturday versus Cal State Dominguez Hills, draining all but one of her seven field goal attempts and swishing her lone free throw to tally 13 points in the Wildcats’ 80-53 taming of the Toros.
Dalthorp currently ranks fifth among the Wildcats in scoring, averaging 6.0 points per game to go along with 3.8 rebounds a contest. She is second on the team in field goal percentage (47.5 percent) and is shooting nearly 82 percent from the free throw line.
Chico State, which has already secured a spot in the CCAA Championship Tournament, wraps up regular season play Thursday and Friday, hosting Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay at Acker Gym.
