With its third place finish at the Point Loma Nazarene Super San Diego Championship, the Chico State women’s golf team served notice that it would be a force to be reckoned with over the next several months. For the Wildcats to contend for an NCAA Super Regional berth, they’ll need senior Shelby Hooper to have a huge spring, and she did not disappoint in San Diego, shooting a solid 17-over par 161 at Riverwalk Golf Course to finish in fifth place on the tournament’s individual leaderboard. Her best outing of the season has earned Hooper the latest Wildcat of the Week award.
Hooper carded a season-low 77 in Monday’s first round of the PLNU Super San Diego Championship, including a sizzling 2-over par 38 on the back nine to finish the day in sole possession second place. The native of Incline Village, Nev. shot a 12-over 84 Tuesday, but it was good enough for Hooper to complete the 36-hole event in fifth place – the fourth top 10 finish of her Chico State career.
Hooper and the Wildcats are back in action Mar. 3-4, competing in the Cal State East Bay Pioneer Shootout at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo.
