You may think that taking a year off from competition would dull any athlete’s skills. In the case of Chico State women’s basketball player Synchro Bull, you’d be forced to think again – because as she proved this past weekend, she’s not just any athlete. After sitting out the 2010-11 season, the junior from Oakland has returned to the team and is performing better than ever, leading the Wildcats to two victories in the CCAA/GNAC Challenge and winning tournament Most Valuable Player honors. Thanks to her impressive performance, Bull is also the recipient of the latest Wildcat of the Week award.
Bull was the ’Cats top scorer in each of the two games in Seattle, collecting a combined 33 points, as well as hauling in nine rebounds, dishing out seven assists and grabbing four steals in Chico State’s big wins over Western Washington and Seattle Pacific.
Friday against Western Washington, Bull scored 14 points and contributed two rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block as the Wildcats edged the Vikings 66-63. She was even more effective in Saturday’s game against host school Seattle Pacific, posting team highs with 19 points – just one shy of her career high – seven rebounds, five assists and two steals to lead the ’Cats to a 77-72 win over the Falcons and take home the CCAA/GNAC Challenge MVP award.
Bull, along with Jazmine Miller, leads Chico State in scoring, averaging 12 points a game, while also averaging 3.6 rebounds and over two assists and two steals per contest.
The Wildcats return to California Collegiate Athletic Association play Saturday, traveling to Arcata to take on Humboldt State. Monday, Dec. 19, the ’Cats will be in Rohnert Park to face Sonoma State before taking a two-week holiday break.
