Last week was no doubt bittersweet for Chico State women’s soccer standout Lisa Webster. The senior played the final match of her four-year Wildcat career, but it happened to be in the NCAA Championship Tournament’s Final Four. The’Cats fell just short of playing for the national championship, losing a heartbreaker Thursday to Grand Valley State, but Webster delivered the team’s lone goal to help cement her standing in the Chico State record books. As she leaves the program, Webster has earned one last accolade – Wildcat of the Week.
Webster’s header in the 86th minute provided the tying goal in Chico State’s hard-fought Final Four contest against Grand Valley State, forcing overtime and the subsequent penalty kicks that allowed the Lakers the advance to last Saturday’s national championship match. Webster’s outstanding play was acknowledged when she was named to the Final Four All-Tournament team.
Thursday’s goal was the 22nd for Webster, tying her with Leondra May Dodge and Denise Butticci for sixth place on Chico State’s career goals list. Webster also collected 19 assists as a Wildcat, tied for third most in school history, and her 63 career points ties her for fifth all-time among Chico State women’s soccer players.
