During her nine freshman tournaments last season, Chico State women’s golfer Sarah McComish posted just one top 15 finish. That won’t be the case in 2011-12 – the sophomore from Salem, Ore. has already seen to that by earning a share of seventh place in last weekend’s St. Martin Invitational. Her finest finish ever as a Wildcat makes her the obvious choice for Wildcat of the Week.
McComish delivered a 36-hole score of 14-over par 160 at the St. Martin’s Invitational, played at Olympia Country Club in Olympia, Wash. McComish shot an opening-round 79 on Friday – just two strokes shy of her single-best round as a member of the Wildcats – then followed it up with an 8-over 81 Saturday to share seventh place on the individual leaderboard with teammate Alex Bush, and lead the ’Cats to fourth place in the team standings with a combined score of 66-over 650.
McComish and the Wildcats wrap up their Washington trek Tuesday in Bellingham at the Viking Invitational, then return to action Oct. 24-25 at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational.
