Adrian Bringas, a senior third baseman from San Diego, delivered throughout the weekend for the Wildcats, and especially in the clutch, as they took three of four at Cal Poly Pomona to open their 2011 CCAA slate. He's the second baseball player to earn Wildcat of the Week honors this season, joining Jackson Evans.
Bringas batted .571 with two doubles and posted hits in every game of the series. The biggest hit was his game-winning RBI-double in the seventh inning of the series finale that lifted the Wildcats to a 4-3 victory. Earlier in the day, he layed down a sacrifice bunt in the seventh inning that pushed what proved to be the game-tying and game-winning runs to first and second.
Bringas was 2-for-4 in the series opener, which the Wildcats lost 8-1. He went 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a walk in Chico State’s 9-0 win in game two. In Sunday’s first game Bringas was 3-for-3 with a double and sacrifice bunt and was hit by a pitch. And in the finale he was 1-for-4 with the game-winning double.
Bringas and the Wildcats will be back home for a three-game series against Montana State-Billings Sunday and Monday.
