Back in 1971 country singer Jerry Reed scored a huge pop and country hit with a tune called “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot.” Forty years on, that could serve as a fitting theme song for Chico State’s Courtney Harrison, who continues to shine from outside the 3-point line in 2010-11. Fresh off her seven-trey performance Jan. 7-8, Harrison knocked down nine more 3-pointers in the Wildcats’ weekend road tilts against Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona, scoring a combined 32 points while also contributing 10 rebounds and four assists. Harrison’s hot shooting hand has earned the Colfax native her second straight Wildcat of the Week award.
Harrison buried three 3-pointers and led Chico State with 13 points while handing out three assists and pulling down a career-high eight rebounds in Friday’s 61-56 loss to Cal State San Bernardino. The Wildcats fell to Cal Poly Pomona 62-42 on Saturday – the program’s lowest-scoring game in two years – but Harrison delivered another outstanding performance, connecting on a career-best six 3-pointers en route to a team-high 19 points, just one shy of her single game career high.
Harrison, who has hit 16 of her last 30 3-point attempts and has connected for at least one trey in each of her last 10 games, is now the Wildcats’ leading scorer on the season, averaging 8.9 points a contest. For her Chico State career, Harrison has knocked down 55 3-pointers, posting a school-record .430 shooting percentage from behind the arc.
Harrison and the Wildcats look to return to their winning ways this weekend at Acker Gym, when they host San Francisco State Friday and California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference leader Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
