Tyson Crim is starting to make a name for himself as a member of the Chico State men’s soccer team. The younger brother of Zac Crim, an All-American for the Wildcats in 2008, Tyson has mistakenly been called Zac by his coach, his Sports Information Director, heck, even his mom. But games like the one he had Friday night will go a long way in remedying that annoyance. The dangerous playmaker notched a goal and an assist in the Wildcats’ 3-1 win against Cal State Dominguez Hills to earn Wildcat of the Week honors.
Crim, a sophomore from Boise, Idaho, scored his first collegiate goal on a header in the third minute Friday. Freshman defender Evan Johnston whipped in a corner kick to the near post that Crim redirected inside the far post.
He then set up Ferid Celosmanovic beautifully for the Wildcats’ third goal of the game, which put the Toros away. Crim grabbed a turnover, dribbled at an angle from left to right, and then slid a pass back across his body through three defenders to the feet of Celosmanovic. He took two touches and blasted a rocket into the back of the net from 15 yards.
The helper was Crim’s second of the season and the fourth of his career.
Crim and the Wildcats are back in action next weekend at Sonoma State Friday and Humboldt State Sunday.
