Chico State Athletics

Lisa Webster, a junior forward from El Dorado Hills (Ponderosa HS) notched a goal and an assist to lead the Chico State women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory against 13th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino Sunday, two days after a heartbreaking 1-0 overtime loss to Cal Poly Pomona. She's been named Wildcat of the Week for her efforts.

Webster's goal was set up when Blake Lopes dribbled from the flank inside and slotted her the ball. She outran a pair of defenders, took a touch outside for space, and then cracked a low shot back across the goalkeepers’ face to the far corner of the net to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

Denni Jo Berger finished a gorgeous sequence early in the second half to give Chico State a two-goal cushion. Abby Glasgow chipped a pass toward the corner to Webster and she beat a defender on the way toward the goal, drawing the goalkeeper out in the process and then bounced a cross to a wide-open Berger at the far post. She settled the bouncing ball and then blasted it home.

The goal was Webster’s third of the season and the ninth of her career. The assist was her first of the year and the 12th of her career, moving her into a tie on Chico State’s all-time assists list (shown below.)
