Sam Quadt was one of the Wildcats’ most consistent performers throughout the 2010 regular season, and the sophomore center fielder from Burlingame continued that trend during last weekend’s California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship Tournament. Quadt hit safely in all three of Chico State’s tourney games, batting .444 and was named to the CCAA All-Tournament team. Her postseason accomplishments have earned Sam the Wildcat of the Week award.
Quadt went 1-for-4 Friday in the Wildcats’ 5-0 tournament-opening victory against Cal State Monterey Bay, then singled in three trips Saturday afternoon as Chico State dropped a 2-1 decision to Cal State Dominguez Hills. She saved her best effort for last, reaching base three times with two singles and a walk, and driving in the Wildcats’ lone run in a 3-1 loss to eventual tournament champion Sonoma State Saturday night.
Quadt has now hit safely in four straight and 11 of her last 13 games. She leads Chico State in RBI (21) and doubles (11), and is tied for the team lead with 13 extra-base hits. Quadt also ranks second among Wildcat players in hits (47), and her .292 batting average trails only teammates Charlotte Honciano and Christine Johnson.
Quadt and the rest of the Wildcats await the NCAA West Regional selections on May 10 to see if Chico State (currently ranked No. 6 in the West) continues postseason play and gets the chance to compete for the national championship.
