Charlotte Honciano, a senior from Fairfield, continues to be the Wildcats’ top offensive weapon of 2010. One week after batting .450 at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions, Honciano hit an even .500 over the weekend in a three-game series against Cal State San Bernardino, collecting five hits in 10 at-bats, including her team-high third home run while driving in three runs. Honciano’s impressive numbers on the softball diamond have earned the second baseman Wildcat of the Week recognition for the first time this season.
In the first game of Saturday’s tripleheader against San Bernardino, Honciano went 1-for-3; her RBI single in the third inning snapped a 2-all tie and put Chico State ahead to stay as the Wildcats went on to down the Coyotes 7-2. After a 1-for-4 performance in the second game, Honciano provided nearly all of Chico State’s offensive production in the day’s final contest, going 3-for-3 and driving in both Wildcat runs in a 4-2 San Bernardino victory. One of the runs came in the sixth inning when Honciano cracked a homer over the left field fence.
Last week’s achievements are just the latest in Honciano’s outstanding 2010 season. Entering this weekend’s key California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup versus San Francisco State, Honciano leads the Wildcats in batting average (.355), hits (38), home runs (3), stolen bases (8), on-base percentage (.430) and slugging percentage (.495), while ranking second on the teams in runs (17) and RBI (15).
