Throughout the 2022–23 season, Tyler Ashman has served as a model of consistency for the Chico State men’s golf team. The Clovis native has posted no less than 14 below-par rounds in the Wildcats’ 11 tournaments, finishing in the individual top 10 seven times. And when the season was on the line at the NCAA Super Regionals, Ashman applied his even-keel approach when the ’Cats needed it most, and as a result of his consistent play, Chico State will be among the teams competing at the NCAA Championship Tournament Finals. Ashman’s outstanding performance at Rohnert Park’s Foxtail Golf Club makes him the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Ashman carded a 54-hole score of 3-under par 213 at the NCAA Super Regional, earning a share of fifth place in the 108-player field—the third time this season he has finished a tournament in the individual top five.
Ashman began the Super Regional with an opening round 72, ending the first day tied for 14th place. In second round play, Ashman sank five birdies on the way to a 2-under par 70, moving him into a tie for fifth place on the individual leaderboard. On the all-important final 18, Ashman drained five more birdies and fired a 1-under 71, finishing the tournament tied for fifth and vaulting the Wildcats into third place with a final team score of 5-over 869 to earn one of the five qualifying spots in the NCAA Championship Finals.
Ashman leads Chico State with a season average of 71.8 strokes a round, and looks to maintain his consistency on the links when he and the Wildcats tee it up for a shot at the Division II national championship May 22–26 at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club in Warren, Ohio.
