Chico State pitcher Casey Edelbrock shined in his first start of the season, tossing a five-hit shutout in the Wildcats’ 9-0 victory against Cal State Stanislaus in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday to earn Wildcat of the Week honors. He struck out two and did not walk a batter. In fact, no Warrior reached second base until two were out in the seventh.
Edelbrock, the team’s closer who entered the game with a team-high four saves, cruised through the first six innings, allowing only a single in the third and another in the fifth. He faced just two batters over the minimum through six. His shutout bid was threatened in the seventh when surrendered three singles, but got out of trouble with the help of a double play. No Warrior reached second base until there were two down in the seventh.
With that fine effort, Edelbrock improved to 2-1 with a 2.60 ERA and leads the Wildcats with an opposing batting average of just .194.
