A little more than halfway through the regular season, it’s pretty apparent which player on the Chico State women’s basketball team has stepped up her game to the point where she’s firmly established herself as one of the Wildcats’ driving forces of the 2022–23 campaign. Zhane Duckett made big contributions in just about every statistical category against both Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino, helping the ’Cats earn a hard-fought two-game split to wrap up their long home January home stand. Her efforts make Duckett—once again—the Wildcat of the Week.
Duckett averaged 12.5 points in the two contests, shooting 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the field, pulling down a combined 13 rebounds, dishing out nine assists, grabbing six steals and posting three blocks to help move Chico State to 10-6 on the season and into sole possession of fifth place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with a 6-4 conference record.
Thursday against Cal Poly Pomona, Duckett connected on five of seven shots and buried a pair of 3-pointers to finish with 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists in the Wildcats’ 68-63 loss to the Broncos. Saturday versus Cal State San Bernardino, Duckett scored 13 points, snared eight boards, doled out four assists, snagged four steals, and blocked three shots as Chico State defeated the ’Yotes 67-56.
For the season, Duckett is averaging 9.6 points and 5.6 rebounds a game. Her 55 assists are the fourth-most among all CCAA players.
Duckett and the Wildcats hit the road this week for the team’s first away games since New Year’s Day. Thursday night Chico State goes head-to-head against Cal State Monterey Bay, then on Saturday the ’Cats travel to The City for an afternoon tilt against San Francisco State.
