Strong Start in San Marcos as Distance and Field Events Boost the Wildcats

SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Chico State's women's track & field team sits atop the team standings after day one of the 2026 CCAA Championships, totaling 52 points through four scored events.

The Wildcats were powered by a dominant showing in the 10,000 meters, where Chico State placed four runners in the top four positions. Iresh Molina claimed the conference title in 36:16.67, followed closely by Megan Malloy (36:17.68) and Kira Forsberg (36:22.07) to complete the sweep of the top three spots. Jasmine Fletcher added to the team total with a fourth-place finish in 36:46.02. 

In the heptathlon, Laila Florvilus leads a strong multi-event group with a runner-up finish (2741 points). Florvilus also highlighted the day with a first-place mark in the high jump (1.66m) and a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (14.76). Teammates Talynn Schroeder (4th, 2602), Annabelle Low (5th, 2299), and Bella Morales (6th, 2240) all scored valuable team points. Morales also recorded a second-place finish in the heptathlon 200 meters (25.80). 

Chico State added points in the field events, led by Kylie Davis, who placed third in the long jump with a mark of 5.66m. In the pole vault, Janey Rubio cleared 3.87m to finish second, while Charlie Ham (3rd, 3.47m) and Lauren Roznovsky (6th, 3.32m) also contributed to the team score. Daeja Downing finished 12th in the discus (33.98m). 

On the track, Chico State showed strong depth advancing athletes into finals. In the 1500 meters, four Wildcats qualified, led by Paulina Martins (4:40.05), Kaya Scuba (4:40.51), Sienna Bianchi (4:42.76), and Catherine McGuire (4:43.04). The 400 meters saw Teresa Vasconcellos (55.74) and Emma Gaddy (56.15) automatically qualify, while Crystal Rosales (57.22) advanced on time. Savannah Sawyer added another qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.49. 

In the 100-meter prelims, Tianna Thompson (12.33) and Madi Monroe (12.43) represented Chico State.

Up Next

The CCAA Championships continue Friday with the women's hammer throw kicking it off at noon followed by the men's hammer at 3 p.m. The track events also start at 3 p.m. with the 200 meter dash.
