Back To Fighting for the Top, Wildcats Finish Third at Coyote Classic

BEAUMONT, Calif. – Chico State men's golf turned in its best performance of the spring, finishing third at the Coyote Classic with a three-round total of 863 (-1).

The Wildcats finished under par as a team, placing behind host Cal State San Bernardino and second-place CSU Monterey Bay. Chico State posted the second-best final-round score at 290 (+2), finishing six strokes ahead of the next closest team that day.

Naoki Easterday led the way with a strong three-round performance of 210 (-6), closing with a 70 (-2) in Tuesday's final round. The senior birdied the final hole to move into a tie for third and recorded three rounds of even par or better, earning his second top-five finish of the spring.

Freshman Vineet Vallamsetty secured a top-10 finish with a 217 (+1), despite a 73 (+1) in the final round. It marks his second top-10 result of the spring campaign.

Alexander LemMon carded a 73 (+1) in the final round to jump five spots and finish tied for 20th, his best finish of the spring. The junior's 220 (+4) total improved his previous season-best score by five strokes.

Ty Weaver continued his strong spring with a 74 (+2) in the final round, finishing tied for 24th. The newcomer has made an immediate impact, tallying 14 birdies over the two-day tournament.

Cooper Hambrick rounded out Chico State's scoring lineup, finishing 56th with a 232 (+16). Collin Statler, competing as an individual in his first collegiate tournament, placed 75th with a 242 (+26).


Chico State will take a week off before traveling to Arizona for the Palm Valley Classic on April 6–7. The Wildcats will compete in three consecutive weeks in April, with the CCAA Championships less than a month away in Stockton.
