OROVILLE, Calif. – After hosting the Chico State Multi Classic on Thursday and Friday, the Chico State men's track & field team opened its full 2026 season Saturday at Butte College's Black and Gold Invitational.
The Wildcats collected multiple event victories across sprints, hurdles, relays and field events, highlighted by strong performances from both returning standouts and several athletes making their Chico State debuts.
TOP PERFORMANCES
– Brody Staley won the 200 meters in 21.80 and added a runner-up finish in the 100 meters in 10.85 to lead the Wildcats in the sprints.
– Harrison Hubbard made an immediate impact in his Chico State debut, capturing the 800 meters in 1:59.39.
– Donovan Marshall swept a pair of top performances in the hurdles, winning the 400-meter hurdles in 54.97 and placing second in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.00. Lucas Curry finished third in both races, clocking 15.55 in the 110 hurdles and 57.50 in the 400 hurdles in his collegiate debut.
– Chico State's 'A' 4x400-meter relay team of Staley, Hubbard, Logan Cole and Trey Suffredini took first in 3:16.21. The 'B' team of Jaiden Jenkins, Marshall, Collin Totman and Curry placed third in 3:29.93.
– Nathan Hernandez cleared 4.42 meters to win the pole vault, while Logan Meredith finished second at 4.26 meters in his collegiate debut. Jeffrey O'Brien added a third-place finish at 3.96 meters.
– In the high jump, Niko Lawrence cleared 2.00 meters to place second, with Alex Valcarenghi and Chijioke Ihejirka both clearing 1.95 meters.
– Jorge Barajas won the shot put with a personal-best throw of 16.18 meters.
– Travis Allen claimed the discus title with a personal-best 45.36 meters, and Tad Desembrana placed third at 41.36 meters.
– Tyler St. Laurent led a dominant showing in the hammer throw, winning with a personal-best 53.69 meters. Desembrana followed closely in second with a personal-best 53.65 meters, while Sean Artist placed third at 50.73 meters in his Chico State debut.
– Nehemiah Holiday won the triple jump with a mark of 13.95 meters, and Miguel Long placed second at 12.72 meters.
– Freddy Southworth finished second in the javelin with a 49.56-meter throw in his Chico State debut, while Ronin Tidd added a third-place mark of 48.90 meters.
– Lavell Cross placed second in the long jump with a leap of 6.45 meters.
