CHICO, Calif. – Thomas Meyer carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning and finished with six hitless frames in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, helping Chico State rally for a 5–4 extra-inning victory before the Wildcats fell 4–1 in the nightcap to split the twin bill with Western Oregon at Nettleton Stadium.
Chico State moved to 6–6 on the season, while Western Oregon left town at 4–6.
Wildcat Standouts
Thomas Meyer – Threw 6.0 no-hit innings with three strikeouts in game one, retiring 17 of the 19 batters he faced.
Michael Baker – Went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in game one, including a two-run single in the seventh.
Myles Cooper – Delivered the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning in game one.
Game 1 – Chico State 5, Western Oregon 4 (11 innings)
Meyer was dominant from the outset, keeping Western Oregon off the scoreboard and without a hit through six innings. The junior right-hander worked efficiently, mixing pitches and inducing weak contact throughout his outing.
Chico State broke through in the sixth when Baker singled home a run to give the Wildcats a 1–0 lead.
Western Oregon responded with four runs in the eighth inning to seize control, but the Wildcats answered immediately. Baker delivered a two-run single in the seventh to tie the game at 3–3, and down to their final out, Wright sped his way home on a wild pitch to tie the game.
After both teams went scoreless in the 10th, Cooper lined a single through the right side in the bottom of the 11th to score the winning run and secure the victory. Jakob Poole earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief.
Game 2 – Western Oregon 4, Chico State 1
Western Oregon jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap, scoring twice in the first inning, aided by a Wildcat error.
Chico State answered in the second when Roman Roberts scored on a groundout by Jackson Snitko to cut the deficit to 2–1.
The Wolves tacked on two more runs in the seventh to extend the margin, while Western Oregon starter Wyatt Rosales went the distance, allowing one run on five hits over seven innings.
Tyler Eastham settled in after the opening frame, finishing with five innings pitched and four strikeouts.
