Holley, Zemmo Lead Wildcats, but Humboldt Pulls Away, 96–77

CHICO, Calif. – Chico State saw a strong offensive night spoiled Saturday, as Cal Poly Humboldt shot 63 percent from the field and pulled away for a 96–77 CCAA win on Jan. 17, 2026 at Art Acker Gym. The Wildcats moved to 6–10 overall (4–7 CCAA), while the Lumberjacks improved to 9–7 (7–3 CCAA).

How it happened

Chico State traded baskets early and kept pace behind efficient scoring from Chris Holley and repeated trips to the free-throw line from Robel Zemmo, but Humboldt's hot shooting and perimeter burst created separation in the first half. The Lumberjacks went into the break up 45–40, powered by a barrage from Brandon Bento-Jackson, who knocked down six first-half threes.
The Wildcats opened the second half looking to respond, but Humboldt struck first with a quick run built on turnovers and transition finishes, stretching the margin to double digits. Chico State continued to compete—getting a big night from Holley (20 points) and Zemmo (19 points)—but Humboldt's balance and efficiency proved too much as the Lumberjacks scored 51 second-half points and gradually pushed the lead out of reach.
Humboldt finished with 42 points in the paint and hit 12 three-pointers, while Chico State was limited to three bench points and struggled to slow Humboldt's consistent scoring in the half court and in transition.

Winning time (final 6 minutes)

With Chico State still within reach at 73–65 (6:01), Humboldt closed the game with a decisive run. A Rob Jenkins three pushed the lead to 78–65, and the Lumberjacks followed with a layup, free throws, and a series of finishes inside to extend the margin beyond 15 and close out the road win.
