SAN FRANCISCO – Chico State closed its weekend road trip with an 85–77 CCAA win over San Francisco State on Saturday, Jan. 10, at the San Francisco Federal Credit Union Gym at Don Nasser Family Plaza. The Wildcats improved to 6–7 overall and 4–4 in conference play, while the Gators dropped to 2–13 (1–7 CCAA).
How it happened
Chico State navigated a tightly contested first half that featured multiple lead changes before taking a slim 38–35 lead into the break. The Wildcats established an early presence inside, attacking the paint and earning second-chance opportunities on the offensive glass, while mixing in timely perimeter shots to stay in front.
The Wildcats came out of halftime with momentum, using defensive stops and transition opportunities to stretch the lead. Chico State continued to win the possession battle, finishing with 15 offensive rebounds and committing just six turnovers, allowing the offense to stay composed and efficient throughout the second half.
San Francisco State made several runs to keep the game within reach, but Chico State answered each push with poised execution. The Wildcats leaned on strong free-throw shooting and tough finishes at the rim down the stretch, closing out the eight-point road victory despite a late three from the Gators in the final seconds.
