Strong Opening Week Gathers Votes on National Coaches Poll

| By:

CHICO, Calif. – Chico State men's golf claimed the Wildcat Classic title last Tuesday, cruising to a ten-stroke victory while combining for a program-best team score in the process.

The Wildcats' strong tournament finish in Marysville drew attention from men's golf coaches across Division II, boosting the squad to 21st in the Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll. Previously receiving only votes, the team's performance provided an incredible momentum boost and renewed confidence that this squad will continue its tradition of strong postseason campaigns.

After the final round, the Wildcats walked off the 18th green with the 2025 Wildcat Classic hardware—their tenth title since the turn of the century. What set this win apart was the performance of Naoki Easterday, Vineet Vallamsetty, Ben Mouser, Cooper Hambrick, and Ethan Allred, who combined for a program-low 823 (-41).

With that performance, the 'Cats joined the national top 25 alongside fellow CCAA program Cal State East Bay (16th).

Continuing the fall segment of the season, Chico State will travel to DuPont, Washington, for the Bishop Invitational at The Home Course, hosted by Saint Martin's. Teeing off on September 29, the 'Cats will look to build a hot streak and keep climbing the national rankings before spring.
