Chico State Claims Wildcat Classic Title in Dominant Fashion

| By:

MARYSVILLE, Calif. – The Chico State men's golf team took home hardware from the 2025 Wildcat Classic after an outstanding final-round performance at Peach Tree Country Club in Marysville on Tuesday. Freshman Vineet Vallamsetty claimed medalist honors in his first collegiate tournament, winning a two-hole playoff against teammate Naoki Easterday. Both golfers carded birdies on the 18th hole to force the playoff.

The Chico State "A" team set a program record for lowest team score relative to par, combining for an 823 (-41) to capture the trophy in their season opener.

Vallamsetty clawed his way back to tie the lead in the final round, shooting a 66 (-6) to finish with a 203 (-13) total.

Senior Naoki Easterday also put together a strong tournament, finishing with a 203 (-13) and recording three rounds under 70.

Both Easterday and Vallamsetty tied the program's lowest tournament score. The last Wildcat to finish 13-under was Travis Miller ('25) at last year's Wildcat Classic in Corning.

Sophomore Ethan Allred finished third on the team and 15th overall after a steady even-par final round kept him under par through three rounds. He carded a 211 (-5) in Marysville.

Competing in his first collegiate tournament as an individual, Alex Adler earned his first top-15 finish with three consecutive under-par rounds. Adler carded a 71 (-1) on Tuesday, sinking three birdie putts on the back nine.

Ben Mouser delivered an impressive stretch in the second and final rounds, combining for nine-under and finishing with a 213 (-3) to round out the Wildcats' Classic scoring.

Giuseppe Aliotti, Grant Burback, Ty Weaver, and Cooper Hambrick tied for 25th, each posting a 215 (-1) to open the 2025 fall season.

The 'Cats return to action September 26–27 at the Bishop Invitational, hosted at The Home Course in Lacey, Washington.
