TURLOCK, Calif. - The Chico State women's track and field team continued their pursuit for the CCAA title on Friday with multiple 'Cats earning spots in the finals on Saturday.
Cal Poly Pomona currently leads the championship with 90 points, while the Wildcats stand in second with 60.50 points.
Angelina Escobar was able to snag a couple points for the 'Cats with a seventh-place finish in the shot put, throwing for 11.83m.
In the 800m preliminary, Sidney Garcia and Kaya Scuba both claimed qualification spots in the finals on Saturday. Garcia finished in fourth with a time of 2:14.54 and Scuba was right behind in seventh with a 2:16.05 finish.
A highlight of the second day was Olivia Beschorner taking the gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase with a finish of 11:03.47. This is the freshman's first CCAA Championship appearance and continues the streak of Chico State winners in the event after Marissa D'Atri won the event three consecutive years.
Natalie Muse showed out on the final day of the heptathlon, jumping into a fourth-place finish after a top finish in the 800m (2:33.47) and third place finish in the long jump (5.27m).
They will close out the CCAA Championships on Saturday with a flurry of finals and the overall team champions will be crowned.
