ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The Chico State baseball team notched two decisive victories over Sonoma State Saturday in the middle games of the CCAA series. The Wildcats shut out the Seawolves 9-0 in the first game and secured a 5-2 win under evening skies.
With the wins, Chico State improves to 14-6 overall and 7-4 in the CCAA. Sonoma State, meanwhile, drops to 6-13 overall and 3-8 in conference play.
In the first game, Wildcats' pitcher Evan Tomlinson led a strong defensive effort that culminated in a shutout against the Seawolves. The offensive lineup was equally impressive, with Phoenix Casias leading the charge by notching three runs and contributing four RBIs across the two games. Other notable players included Thade Miller and Troy Kent, each adding multiple runs and RBIs to the team's tally.
The second game saw pitcher Jeremy Keller take the mound, continuing the strong pitching performance started by Tomlinson. Despite a homerun by Sonoma State's Bryson McCarn, Chico State maintained control, supported by solid hits and strategic plays highlighted during key moments in the 4th and 7th innings.
Looking ahead, the Wildcats are set to face the Seawolves one more time at Seawolf Diamond on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. Remember to set the clocks forward for Daylight Saving Time.
