ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The 14th-ranked Chico State baseball team demonstrated a robust performance to secure a 13-7 win over Sonoma State to capture the four-game CCAA series Sunday afternoon.
This win brings Chico State's overall record to 15-6 and 8-4 in the CCAA, moving the Wildcats into first place in the conference standings.
Among the top performers, Troy Kent went 3-5 with 2 RBIs and hit a triple, while Jeremy Keller added a clutch 2 RBI single. Rocco Borrelli started on the mound and received strong support from Tyce Ochs and Dylan Adelman, who combined for four innings of crucial relief to help maintain the lead.
Chico State gained an early advantage with significant contributions from players like Phoenix Casias and Kent, who were instrumental in building the lead late in the game. Casias delivered a pivotal moment by driving in two runs with a double in the eighth inning and was soon followed by Kent's RBI triple. Kent would sprint his way home on a wild pitch to give the Wildcats a 10-4 lead. The Wildcats would plate in three more runs in the ninth. Michael Baker was hit by the pitch to lead off the inning and scored on Jesse Gadd's double down the left field line. Ernie Arambula and Kent each singled in a run to build a 13-5 lead.
Chico State will now gear up for its next challenge against Cal State East Bay at Nettleton Stadium. The four-game conference series is set to begin Friday at 6 p.m.
