ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – On a sunny Friday afternoon, the Chico State baseball team was edged out by Sonoma State in a 10-inning nail-biting CCAA series opener, concluding with a tight final score of 2-1 in favor of the Seawolves.
Chico State's current record stands at 12-6 overall and 5-4 in the CCAA, while Sonoma State sits at 6-11 overall and 3-6 in the conference.
The Wildcats' starting pitcher, Marco Ibarra, delivered a commendable performance, pitching seven innings while allowing just one run on eight hits and a walk.
Down by one since the third inning, the Wildcats were able to get a run across in the sixth. Ernie Arambula drew a one-out walk and it took back-to-back singles from Thade Miller and Troy Kent to get the tying run across.
Chico State had a couple of opportunities in the late innings to break the 1-1 tie. The Wildcats stranded the go-ahead run in the seventh and then runners on second in the ninth and 10th innings.
As both teams prepare for their next encounter, the Wildcats are set to face the Seawolves again on Saturday in a doubleheader at Seawolf Diamond.
